ARTIST STATEMENT - ALBERT GEORGE DECRUYENAERE

Art evokes an emotion one way or another, and through it you can connect, reach out, engage and even enrage. A blank canvas is a blank wall. So you create; you express yourself and the world around you. As an artist you share part of yourself with all other life. Hopefully everyone has a reaction one way or another.

Albert’s Spirit

I have grown to be a calming figure, with a strong nurturing side and instinctive need to protect those I care for. I am seeded with a soft and kind heart, and I have a great respect for all life and for nature.

I have become an amalgamated spirit, by merging "maturing" experiences with creative thinking. I am also compensating and practical, seeking solutions rather than dwelling on long-lasting arguments.

I believe that successful action is cumulative in its results – it builds momentum. Since the desire for more life is inherent in all things, when you begin to move towards larger life, more things attach themselves to you, and then the influence of your desire is multiplied.

Inspiration

The reason I let myself become an artist after working 25 years in Interior Design is simple: I wanted more. I wanted to create just from what was in me. I wanted to draw and paint because it's what I love to do.

My grandfather was an architect, first in Belgium and then later on here in Canada. My mother was offered a complete scholarship at one of New York’s leadings fashion design schools, but could not follow her dreams as her mother was very sick and needed care. My two sisters are very talented: one does beautiful paintings; the other likes to work in stain glass. My brother Robert can do very creative designs from wood. My father loves to collect Inuit art. I feel my inspiration is my past, my present, and what I see as my future.

Mediums & Techniques

I have worked in water color, pencil, charcoal, oil paint, acrylic paint and in combining different mediums together. I very much like pointillism, pencil drawings and paint. Click here to read more about techniques.
